In addition to supporting ecological functions, designs reflective and respectful of place can serve as vestiges in novel landscapes. Massing of cool and warm season grasses along with forbs such as Amsonia hubrichtii provides self-sustaining visual interest throughout the year while Morella, Sporobolus, and other woody, grass, and forb species able to withstand desiccating winds and shallow soils help create outdoor rooftop spaces.
